When it comes to monochrome, networkable laser printers, Brother may not be a name that immediately comes to mind. With the HL-6050DN printer Brother has provided a viable, competitive alternative to other major printer manufacturers.
The HL-6050DN is an out of the box, network printer. The built in Ethernet interface allows multiple users access to the printer in the small office networked environment. The amount of copy that can be provided to the printer is limited by the amount of memory that is provided in the printer. The competitors to the HL-6050DN provide 16MB of memory with their printers. Brother provides 32MB of memory along with the option of adding more memory should the need arise. An expansion slot will accept Brother memory chips that range in size. These sizes are 16MB, 32MB, 64MB and 128MB. The ability to add memory to the HL-6050DN makes it adaptable to any size small business network.
The Brother HL 6050DN printer toner will print a consistent 18 pages of text per minute. The printer takes from 10 – 12 seconds to start printing the first page of the document. While not as fast as other printers both the time to print and print output rates are acceptable for most applications.
Setup of the HL-6050DN is quick and simple. The Quick Start utility program provided by Brother allows even the most inexperienced person to quickly and accurately provide the utilities that are necessary for the printer to operate. Changes to the program can be accomplished either from the computer’s system tray or a file resident in the computer.
Brother has recognized that different businesses utilize different platforms. With that in mind, Brother created the HL-6050DN with the ability to operate on any platform. A business running a Linux platform receives the same superior service from the Hl-6050DN as does the business running an Apple OS or one running Windows.
