Introduced to the market in 2003 but no longer being manufactured, the Sharp UX-CD 600 Communications Center with Sharp UX CD600 toner cartridge is what you wanted if you were looking for a combination fax machine, text-only copy machine, two-line expandable multi-user phone console and answering machine.
It is no longer being manufacture, but several thousand units are still in operation and there are those (primarily home office operators) who love the Sharp UX-CD 600 Communications Center with Sharp UX-CD 600 Toner.
The fax machine has a 14,400 bps modem, which enables printing of approximately 6 pages per minute. It can store 24 pages of incoming info with 448 KB of RAM. The fax printer doubles as a copier. This is obviously not a photocopier, so it is for text only.
It has an automatic feed tray that can handle documents up to 10 pages in length and either letter size or legal size paper. The fax printer is also what works as the copier. This is not a photocopier. It is for text and uses the same toner cartridge as the fax machine component. With 448 KB of RAM, the fax machine stores up to 24 pages of incoming data. The fax function prints at 6 seconds per page thanks to a 14,400 bps modem.
This is an old enough unit that it includes a phone with a hard line cord that connects to the unit. The dial pad is on the handset. A wireless handset with a remote charger is also included. The center is capable of handling up to eight cordless handsets, according to the manufacturer’s product description. But keep in mind: this is only a two-line system. Presumably the hardline phone has a dedicated line that doubles as the fax line. That leaves the cordless phones fighting for the one line out, doesn’t it? Make sure you’re using a Sharp printer toner.
The included cordless phone is the usual 2.4 GHz, spread spectrum digital technology type and I must say it is high quality, delivering a strong signal a long way out. I tested it and was able to go from my second floor back office all the way out to my car in the front driveway without any noticeable drop in clarity or volume. The phone will operate without a charge for 8 hours of talk or, if off but not in the cradle, 2 days of standing by before it needs to be recharged. There’s a low battery light on the handset and recharging to full is an overnight operation.
As far as smart phone service goes, I don’t think this unit enables conference calling. The manufacturer’s product specs mention that it can deliver caller ID and call waiting (assuming you subscribe to these services with your carrier), but nary a word about conference calling. There is a speaker in the console that can be used for hands free conversing. The answering machine that is fully integrated into this multi-line console has a 20 minute limit and can be set up for as many as 8 mailboxes, making it ideal for a small office.
With printers and fax machines that are no longer in manufacture, replacement Toner Cartridge can be a worry. Thankfully, with thousands of Sharp UX-CD 600 Communications Centers in use, UX CD600 printer toner cartridge is easy find, either from the OEM or from any of a number of generic replacement cartridge makers.
